We may be biased, but we think Lee’s Summit is the best
place to call home no matter what season. We’re close enough to Kansas City to
enjoy everything it has to offer, but Lee’s Summit itself has plenty to do
every month of the year if you never want to leave. At Summit Ridge we love
being a part of the Lee’s Summit community, and we know you will too!
Festivals
Every year Lee’s Summit bookends summer with
celebrations. One of the first weekends in June downtown Lee’s Summit hosts
Downtown Days, a festival to honor and raise funds for the nonprofit
organization Downtown Lee’s Summit Main Street, a group dedicated to the
revitalization of Downtown Lee’s Summit. With new vendors and entertainment each
year, Downtown Days is the perfect tradition to welcome summer and show off
your community pride. Learn
more about the festival here and follow Downtown Lee’s Summit on Facebook and Instagram to keep up with all
the happenings throughout the year.
At Lee’s Summit we end the summer the same way we begin
it: with a festival! Each year near the end of September, Downtown Lee’s Summit
is transformed into the heart of Munich at Oktoberfest. This family-friendly
festival has all the German arts and crafts, brats and schnitzel, and live
German-themed entertainment you want. Enjoy both a Biergarten and a
Rootbiergarten, and several contests throughout the weekend. Mark your calendars
and keep track of the countdown on
their website. We’ll see you there!
Parks and Rec
It’s no secret that the Kansas City area has some of the
best parks and outdoor areas in the Midwest. In fact, no matter where you are
in Kansas City you’re no more than 20 minutes away from a great hike or relaxing
park day (even less than 20 minutes away in Lee’s Summit!). Stay local this summer
at Longview Lake, part of Jackson County Park + Rec. The lake offers 930 acres
of aquatic fun, with a full-service marina featuring boat rentals, concessions,
marine supplies, and more. If boats aren’t your style you can relax on the one-acre
beach or have a picnic at one of the 14 shelters. Find out more and learn what
permits you may need on
their website, and follow Jackson County Parks + Rec on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter for more fun activities
in the area.
For more outdoor fun this summer check out the Lee’s
Summit Parks & Recreation. With nearly daily events all summer long, there’s
plenty of choices for the entire family in Lee’s Summit. Sign up for sports or
join a pickup game at one of the courts. You can also go to Legacy Park to
enjoy local artists a the amphitheater. Find a full calendar of events and more
information on their website, and
follow Lee’s Summit Parks & Recreation on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter to keep up with activities year
round.
Other Parks
If you want to enjoy the outdoors but nature isn’t your
thing, head over to Worlds of Fun and Oceans of Fun! Just a short drive northeast
of downtown KCMO, Worlds of Fun is the premier amusement park in the Kansas
City area. Guaranteed fun for all ages, and regular events all year long from
Wednesday FriendsDay, to military and public service days, and special
Halloween festivities beginning in late September. During the warmer months you
can also enjoy the water park, Oceans of Fun, the perfect way to cool off
during a hot summer’s day. Find a full calendar of events and learn about the
variety of rides on their website,

Instagram, and Twitter.
For an even closer place to beat the heat, look no
further than Summit Waves! Part of the Lee’s Summit Parks & Recreation
Department, Summit Waves is full of fun for the whole family. Kids (and kids at
heart) can keep cool on the splash pads and water slides, or take a more relaxing
approach in the lazy river. Learn more and buy day passes or season passes on their website,
